Abstract

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to qualitatively analyze efficient human resource management strategies to develop the career paths of professional athletes in Iran.

Methodology: The present study was applied in terms of purpose and was conducted in a qualitative manner using a descriptive phenomenological approach. The population participating in the study included: experts related to the subject. The sampling method was purposive. The data collection tool was 19 semi-structured interviews, and the data analysis steps were performed in MAXQDA software version 2020. For the validity of the research findings, the criteria of transferability, reliability, confirmability, and the use of the points of view of sports management expert professors were used; and to examine the reliability, the intra-subject agreement method of two coders was used.

Results: According to the findings, 121 sub-themes were identified in the form of 8 main themes: training and development of non-sports skills, development of career opportunities, career path planning, financial support and economic security of athletes, psychological support, injury management and sports rehabilitation, continuous monitoring and evaluation of performance, and social and cultural support.

Conclusion: Designing a sustainable career path for professional athletes requires a multidimensional approach that encompasses all their professional, economic, psychological, social and cultural aspects. Creating comprehensive models that benefit from specialized training, psychological and financial support, and the use of modern technologies helps improve the quality of life of athletes.
