Abstract
Objective: The aim of the present research was to identify the challenges of implementing inclusive physical education in schools.
Methodology: This research employs a qualitative approach. Participants were purposefully selected using snowball sampling. Accordingly, the participants included physical education teachers from regular schools who had at least one student with physical disabilities in their class during the academic year, ensuring that they were directly involved in implementing inclusive sports and had relevant experience in this area. Ultimately, 12 physical education teachers were selected as the sample for this study. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews conducted via telephone. Considering the advantages of thematic analysis, such as flexibility, the ability to summarize large amounts of data, and the capability to analyze and develop policy data, the researchers employed thematic analysis for data interpretation.
Results: The analysis of the data revealed that the challenges of implementing inclusive physical education included individual characteristics, lack of scientific and professional preparedness among teachers, the competitive nature of sports, lack of suitable environments and equipment, different learning levels, lack of supportive environments, and inadequate educational planning.
Conclusion: The results indicated that, at a macro policy level, there is little attention paid to inclusive physical education in schools. Furthermore, despite the existence of Farhangian University as the body responsible for training specialized personnel, appropriate curricula for inclusive physical education have not been designed either before or during service.
